Distribution: Found in the Red River drainage of the Hudson Bay area, the southern Great Lakes tributaries, most of the Mississippi Basin above Arkansas, in the western Gulf Coast drainages of the Trinity River down through the Rio Grande. Absent from the southern Ohio River tributaries, the Cumberland and the Tennessee River systems.
Habitat: Prefers the sandy pools of small streams and rivers.
Spawning Period: An extend breeding period from April through August.
Spawning Habitat: Not known.
Important Notes: A schooler that feeds from the mid-water to the bottom.
