Distribution: Found in the Missouri, Upper Mississippi, and Ohio River
Drainages, in the Great Lakes, and Red River of the Hudson Bay Drainage and on
the Atlantic slope of the Appalachians. Occurs disjunctly in the Ozarks, then
the Ouachita Mountains, and finally in Oklahoma along the border of Texas in the
Red River Drainage.
Habitat: Prefers small river and large creeks with clear water and boulder,
bedrock and rip-rap bottoms.
Spawning Period: Mid April to late July.
Spawning Habitat: Spawns occurs when the water reaches 70 degrees over the nest
of other fish such as Central Stonerollers, Creek Chubs, etc.
Important Notes: Within its range and preferred habitat, the Roseyface Shiner is
a common to abundant schooler.
