Distribution: Occurs in the large rivers of the Mississippi Basin (Missouri, Ohio, Mississippi), the Mackenzie River and a disjunct population in James Bay in Canada.
Habitat: Prefers large turbid rivers and impoundments.
Spawning Period: Spawning occurs in the spring when the water temperature is 50-55 degrees.
Spawning Habitat: The backwaters of turbid areas.
Important Notes: A surface feeding fish that can and often is caught of dry flies used for trout.
