Distribution: Found only in the upland Ozarks portion of the White River System
in northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. Within this area it is often the
most dominate and abundant specie of minnow.
Habitat: Prefers small to large, clear steams and rivers with gravel to bedrock
bottoms, pools with current and below swift riffles.
Spawning Period: Spawns from April to June.
Spawning Habitat: Not studied.
Important Notes: This is a schooling minnow that feeds in all levels of the
stream bed. While it is the most abundant specie in most streams of the Ozarkian
White River, it is not found in the Ozarkian Black or Illinois Rivers.
