Distribution:  Found from Virginia north to southern Quebec, through southern Canada to the slopes of the Gulf of Mexico drainages. Absent from the upper Mobil basin.
Habitat:  Found in cool to cold pools or moderate current, from small streams to large rivers and glacial lakes in the northern part of its range.
Spawning Period:  From May to August in water above 70 degrees.
Spawning Habitat:  Under an object in the stream, the eggs are continually guarded by the male until hatching.
Important Notes:  For its size the Bluntnose Minnow female produces more eggs for her size than any other fish.
