Distribution: Found on the Atlantic coast from Nova Scotia to Florida.
Habitat: An anadronomus specie that only enters the freshwater along the coast to spawn.
Spawning Period: Late spring to early summer.
Spawning Habitat: At sunset, in shallow water in the mouth of a creek.
Important Notes: Young-of-the-year shad stay in the streams and rivers throughout the summer, then migrate to the sea in the fall.
