Distribution: Found from the Suwannee River in Florida westward on the
Coastal Plain to the Mississippi River, was found at one time as for north
as Illinois.
Habitat: This is an anadronomus specie, moving into fresh water to spawn.
Prefers large rivers. Enters freshwater rivers for January to March.
Spawning Period: April when water temperature is 66-72 degrees.
Spawning Habitat: Over coarse sand and gravel in moderate current.
Important Notes: The decline of this specie range, as with so many other
specie, is attributed to impoundments and dams within its previous range.
